Some of the finest treks in the Garhwal Himalaya begin a short drive — or a walk over the ridge — from our home in Kanol. Here are the routes we know best, and the wider journeys we help plan across Uttarakhand.

Treks from Kanol

All five lie in the Trishul and Nanda Ghunti country around our village, from a gentle ridge walk to a high glacial lake.

Wan – Kanol ridge, Chamoli

Monal Top Trek

A new, uncrowded short trek through oak and rhododendron forest to a sunrise viewpoint over Trishul and Nanda Ghunti — right on our doorstep.

Difficulty: Easy–moderate
Duration: 4–5 days
Max altitude: ~3,650 m

Roopkund Trek

The classic high-altitude trek of Chamoli — forest, Asia’s finest meadows, then rock and snow to Roopkund lake at about 4,800 m.

Difficulty: Moderate–difficult

Saptkund Trek

A remote, demanding trek to seven high lakes held sacred to Shiva — real solitude, a vast flower meadow and big views of Trishul.

Max altitude: ~4,600–5,000 m

Brahmatal Trek

A gentle snow trek to a frozen ridge-top lake and a summit with one of the widest Himalayan panoramas in Garhwal.

Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek

Rolling alpine meadows, a sacred lake and big Himalayan views — the lower half of the Roopkund route, without the high final climb.
